Personal Profile
I work as a Designer Craft Maker studying and working in London. My practice is primarily product based with a heavy craft influence. My work focuses on raising awareness for the tactile element of objects within a craft context. I have also participated in creating interactive pieces for exhibitions and events.
My work focuses on accentuating the tactile element of things. I love the unexpected feel, touches that heighten the senses and make you appreciate the piece unusual and expected materials. I feel the hand of the maker is very important and I believe that you can feel a greater connection to pieces when you understand the creative journey they have been on.
Projects
Hair bowl made from human hair and hairspray, looking at our pre-conceptions of the social acceptability of materials.
Tate Takeover 23rd feb 2008 an invisible maze made using infared beams.
Bird Feeders
Handmade Bird Feeders.
When working on a project for the local community, I made these orbs to hold bird feed after i saw local people throwing bird feed on the grass and saw the scramble of pigeons which looked very chaotic. I wanted to create a range of colourful feeders that could feed not only the pigeons but other wildlife which might not be able to compete with the scramble for food. i used decided to use wool as it isn' harmful to the firds feed when they land on the feeders but can also be used for building nests as well.
