looks at how some pieces of furniture are very carefully made and then set aside for special use. They perform a visual and practical function during ritual but they also give us permission to sit in silence and be still whilst acting as reminders of our spiritual heritage. Having made many altars for churches in the past, I have reviewed their symbolic meaning through a series of video drawings, each one lasting no more than three minutes. As a fully trained woodworker, this intellectual and emotional foray into a particular type of furniture, has opened up a refreshing new horizon.
