Handmade Project

I came across a lot of stains in different parts of my house. I wanted stains, which is seen as a bad thing, to be looked upon as a good thing. I designed this ash tray incorporating a stain in the design. From far away it looks like an unsightly stain, but when close-up, you can see it's true detail. Arte Povera was my initial inspiration.

Process Project

I chose to work with pinewood for this project, experimenting to see how thin i could saw it down before it snapped. I wanted the material to lead to the idea. After a range of experiments, i came up with a cutlery set which could be snapped apart. I took photographs of it in a Japanese restaurant so that it was placed in context.
